The Werribee Zoo

Have you been to the Werribee Zoo?

The Werribee Open Range Zoo is an African themed zoo about 32 kilometres (20 mi) south-west of Melbourne. It sits on 560 acres in Werribee Park. It’s a big place so if you plan to go, set aside the day for it.

The highlight is the Safari Tour, which lasts about 40 minutes. The tour includes hippos, rhinos, giraffes, camels, and zebras. The Werribee Zoo also features walking trails. One focuses on African animals and includes lions, monkeys, and meerkats. The other focuses on Australian animals and includes koalas, emus, and kangaroos.

The Werribee Zoo is a conservation park. Some of the species housed are near extinction and there is a breeding program. It also has an animal/adoption sponsorship program. In the gift shop, you can purchase a handmade Beads for Wildlife gift. Beads for Wildlife enables people in Northern Kenya to generate a reliable income through their own beading enterprise.
