Salamanca Market

I enjoyed strolling through the Salamanca Market in Hobart during our stay in Tasmania. I love shopping. By shopping, I mean browsing. I rarely actually buy anything, but I still love going to markets.

The Salamanca Market is a street market that takes place every Saturday. It opened in 1972 and only during the summers in the first years of its life. Over the years, it grew from 12 stalls to over 300. It’s one of Tasmania’s most visited tourist attractions and draws about 30k every Saturday.

You can find all sorts of things at the Salamanca Market. There’s local food and drink, arts and crafts, clothing and accessories, toys, and a whole lot more. I tried some delicious local fudge and whiskey, which I regretted not buying. I did buy a jar of delicious local creamed honey.
