I’ve always wanted to go to Comic-Con, but I never made the journey from Miami to San Diego for it. I was really excited when I discovered Comic-Con was coming to Melbourne.
It took place this past weekend at the beautiful Royal Exhibition Building and I’m so glad I went. The two-day event had an impressive lineup of guest stars, lots of merchandise, and cosplay, which is my favorite part. General admission was $22 for a single day or $40 for the weekend. That was for the basic event. Beyond that, you could purchase tokens to get a photo with or the autograph of your fave celeb, and there were also a variety of packages ranging from $150 all the way up to $600 for VIP experiences.
I’m a fan and a geek, but I’m not that hardcore and I’m not a collector. I don’t care about taking photos with celebs or getting their autographs. I was satisfied with my general admission ticket. I still got to see William Shatner, Cary Elwes (he’s pretty), Ron Perlman, Colin Ferguson from Eureka, Robert Maschio from Scrubs, Nell Campbell and Patricia Quinn from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Craig Parker (who is much more handsome in person than on film), Shannen Doherty, Hollie Marie Combs, and Brian Krause from Charmed, Raphael Sbarge and Keegan Connor Tracy from Once Upon a Time, and Gigi Edgley from Farscape. Not too shabby.
I took all these photos and more with my humble little Canon point-and-shoot camera.
Fun!! My company gets me tickets to go to NY Comic Con which takes place in the fall. I’m curious to see what it’s all about. There’s also a group going to SD Comic Con but sadly I am not one of those employees.

Looks like you had a fantastic time and your pics are great. I always wondered what Comic Con was like when I heard the boys on Big Bang talk about it. Now I have a much better idea.

It’s a pretty unique experience. It brings together sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, television, film, celebrity culture, comics, illustration, design, and fashion all under one roof.
Great pictures, glad to see my skyrim costume getting some appreciation. 😉
One little correction though, the knight on stage is Solaire of Astoria, from the game Dark Souls, not a monty python guy. 🙂 he’s my little brother!

My husband and son are currently on their way home from the San Diego Comic Con and had a blast. They have been attending since 2006 when my son was 9 and is their usual father/son bonding time of year. They didn’t go last year because of our move here but they did attend last year’s in Melbourne and the last one in Adelaide where they met William Shatner. You’ll see a few recent pictures I have posted on my Facebook page and I will add an album when they get home and download their pictures.
I have been to a couple of smaller ones with them in the US but San Diego seems so unmanageable and too crowded for from what they tell me. Hours and hours of waiting in line in the hopes of getting a ticket to be drawn to win a chance to meet someone or get someones autograph is just not for me but they love it and have met some great friends during the long lines.
He’s already bought tickets again for next year and we are all planning on going but I will probably just head to Reno and meet them after the Con. I enjoy going to events like these but the international ones in San Diego and New York (I think) are too chaotic for me. I think I would much rather prefer the Aussie ones.
I found the Melbourne event just right – big, but not too big, very manageable and affordable. I’d love to go to San Diego, but I think I would be overwhelmed.
